Distal Biceps Repair Rehab Program

PHASE 1: 0-4 WEEKS

  • Immobilization in a splint until 1 week post-op
  • ROM: increase passive elbow ROM as tolerated once splint is discontinued
    • May perform active elbow extension and pronation
    • Avoid forceful, active elbow flexion and supination
  • Shoulder and wrist ROM as tolerated

PHASE 2: 4 WEEKS – 8 WEEKS

  • ROM: increase as tolerated
    • May begin active elbow flexion and supination
  • Strengthening: begin rotator cuff isometrics

PHASE 3: 8 WEEKS – 3 MONTHS

  • ROM: progress to full ROM as pain allows
  • Strengthening: formal elbow strengthening exercises as tolerated

PHASE 4: 3 MONTHS+

  • Begin sport-specific activities, increase joint velocity of motion
  • Transition to home exercise program
